Ok fine. I’m back from my blogging hiatus because I know that everyone is dying to hear my thoughts about this whole thing, so here goes:
WTF?
Yeah, that was just about the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard in my life from a group of actors promoting a movie.
Again now, and with emphasis:
WTF?!?!?!
That whole exchange was deeply unsmart.
I’m not sure of who Evans and Renner were trying to appeal to here but it definitely wasn’t men.
I actually took a measure of personal offense at what they said. Don’t these two realize that 95% of Black Widow’s fanbase is male?
I have a stack of Black Widow comics in my closet about six inches high. Her Daredevil arcs are probably my favorite comics of all time.
That being the case, it doesn’t sit well with me to hear her described as a “slut” and a “whore” by people in the Avengers movie. No, that doesn’t sit well with me at all. And I’m thinking that the rest of her fanbase is likely feeling the same thing right now. I mean, what does that say about us, for us to be so foolish as to like a character who is so obviously unrespectable?
Look, she’s just a comic book character, she isn’t real, but this still isn’t cool to hear.
I’m getting flashbacks now of Halle Berry’s deeply stupid comments about Storm back in the day.
Guys, I thought we were over this stuff. Comic book characters should be treated with as much respect as characters from novels, plays or original screenplays.
You have to respect the source material.
Remember this!
